A nanny will undertake Nursery Duties, duties related to the child only. This means that she will care for your children while you work or indeed she will work along side you as a mother's help. A nannies duties will include all the obvious things such as dressing, bathing and preparing nutritious meals for your children.

A Nanny would also make sure that 'play-dates', outings to the zoo/park and social activities for the children are arranged. She will use her skills to develop the children to their full potential, through educational games, learning through play, painting, reading and various other social activities.

The Nanny will be expected to organise the children's belongings, which includes tiding up toys, cleaning the kitchen after preparing meals or any other activities. She will be responsible for the children's bedrooms and bathroom, making sure they are kept clean and tidy. She will do the children's washing and ironing. A Nanny is not expected to do heavy housework, family cooking other chores unless agreed before the position commences.

Nannies are expected to provide a safe, positive and stimulating learning environment in which children can develop. This can be successfully achieved only by working in partnership with parents. Parents frequently look to their nanny for guidance and for help in developing parenting skills.

During working hours a nanny is responsible for all aspects of childcare, directed by her own training and experience, but she must also take account of the family's wishes, religion, culture and so forth.
